Sport Relief at Millennium Point 2006

More than 6,000 people gathered under blue skies at Millennium Point to take
part in Sport Relief. From the Start at Millennium Point the milers headed
down Curzon Street, onto Moor Street Queensway before turning towards the
finish line. Milers were joined by a whole host of famous faces including
Sir Steve Redgrave, Jane Sixsmith, Sir Digby Jones and Graham Taylor.
The Sport Relief Red Sock was central to the experience of everyone taking
part. Each ?Miler? who took part at the start was wearing one red sock, and
at the finish line they were presented with a second to make a pair, and
show the world that they had socked it to poverty.
The start/finish arena was also the place for a whole host of free family
entertainment, including a performance by the Junior World Bollywood
Champion from Shri Academy of Dance. Birmingham's superb SportsFest
initiative will also offering you have-a-go sessions in a whole range of
sports such as Tennis, Cricket, Football, Rugby, and Athletics! Further to
this there were activities for children with disabilities.
